Synthetic biology scientist from CRI (Paris) Thea Chrysostomou and Alex Kyabarongo from the University of Makerere gave a lecture for the university departments of veterinary medicine and agriculture and environmental sciences in Uganda recently within their trip to the region. The lecture organized by Thea Chrysostomou and Alex Kyabarongo from the University of Makerere with the support of the Lecturers without borders project and Connie Nshemereirwe from Global Young Academicians for the high school students who were studying biology.
The joint lecture was given on behalf of two educational institutions which were the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture of the CRI and Environmental Sciences in the University of Makerere. The content was devoted to the introductory of the Synthetic Biology discussing applications and the infinite opportunities this interdisciplinary project can provide. Together with Dr. Onkgom they plan to co-organise future collaborations on the topic of synthetic biology and iGEM.
The students welcomed the lecturers very warmly and were very inspired by the practical touch of the lecture and the possibilities the science opened for their particular region.
